building the workforce of tomorrow, today.
This is where we begin the cultivating process.
Billy the Builder Bear introduces young readers to the fundamentals of construction and the opportunities available in the skilled trades. Through this story, Billy helps children understand the teamwork, problem-solving, and technical skills involved in building a home.Ā In 2025, the foundation is expanding its reach to more classrooms, providing educators with a tool to introduce young students to hands-on careers in the residential construction industry.
In recognition of March is Reading Month, Skilled to Build Michigan Foundation is offering Michigan legislators the opportunity to pick up copies of Billy the Builder Bear to distribute in their districts and read to classrooms. This initiative will help students with industry leaders while fostering an early interest in careers in construction.
For more information on bringing Billy the Builder Bear to your school or organization, contact Skilled to Build Michigan Foundation.

Catie Leads the Crew
Catie Leads the Crew expands on the mission of introducing students to career opportunities in the skilled trades and encourages potential future trades workers to explore different careers in the building industry.
This book also serves as an important resource for promoting diversity in the skilled trades. With women historically underrepresented in the field, Catie Leads the Crew provides an early introduction to the possibilities available to all students, encouraging them to consider pathways in residential construction.
